frustration

Sat Sep 16, 2006, 5:11 AM
I'm, well, frustrated.

It feels like there isn't enough time in the day to get everything I need to finished. I'm almost ready to stop taking commissions at conventions that require me to come home, and creating some sort of queue system in it's place that opens on a limited basis.

I'm overwhelmed. Terribly.

Working a day job again was necessary after moving for financial reasons, but it has me tired, fed up, and altogether struggling to keep the pace. Once I finish this project I'm on things will get a bit easier, so it's maybe another 2 weeks of this, but I'm just so mad. I got a nasty letter this morning in my email on something I sent out weeks ago and the girl was just darn pissed. It irritated me but I can't be mad at her. She just wants her commission. Hell I paid someone for one almost TWO YEARS ago and still haven't gotten it. I don't get that way though; maybe just because I know how it feels.

Advice would be welcome. I'm very lost right now.

patience I've learned is the first rule of being an artist, patience for your work and those arround you.

if you get irritated too much then it will start to affect your work.

always keep a cool head with clients, they may be rude and they may be angry, but they are still the client, and as such need to be treated with the "Creepy" respect.

so just take a deep breath and stop taking comissions for a while, catch up to a point where you think you can handle more, then continue with your life.

I kind of know what you mean. Granted, I don't have to worry about a job right now, and I don't really have to worry about commissions, but there isn't enough time to get everything done that I want.

However, just get done what you can, and look at it in small pieces.
I was told this advice, and it helps. If you have a lot to do, don't look at the whole of things. Look at it in pieces. You've got thing 1, thing 2, thing 3, thing 4, and thing 5 to do. Right now, you only have to do one thing. So maybe do thing 2. When you've finished that, then go onto the next. Just look at it in little pieces, and it won't seem as much.

I hope that helps.

Commissions: [link]
If you feel as though you need to stop the hardcore commissions that take a long time to do, then do it. You know that alot of people will understand hun and those who dont and become irate were not really the best fans. I agree that the girl has the right to be upset that she still hasn't gotten her commission, so I say finish up the ones you have and then take a break from them. There is nothing wrong with that~ Besides, Reactor is next month and you can drown in commissions set up for that weekend only and after the con, you can go back to no commissions until you feel you can handle it.

Which reminds me, can't wait to see you at Reactor! :D

I think a queue system would be great - open so many hours a week, kind of like : ((just guessing on the times, no idea what it really takes ^^;))

-- Rough sketch - 30 minutes
-- Detailed sketch - 1 hour
-- Ink - 2 hours
-- Color - 3 hours
-- Digital color - 5 hours
- Extra character(s) - 30/each
- Background - 1 hour

... that kind of thing, and say you only have 6 hours a week open for commissions, first come, first serve, and if you're not in for this week, go for next, or something like that...

I'm fearing checking emails now. I had someone come back with a costume I made for Halloween last year, complaining that the top isn't right, and they want it all re-done by this Halloween :stab:

If it makes any difference, my $300 Washuu wig from Katie Bair is nowhere to be seen, almost 2 years later. She told me that I needed to pay her another $80 for materials to repair it, because she was selling it on her store for a friend, who had it, and the points started drooping, and then he sent it to her to be fixed, and I still havne't heard a thing about it. If I had known it wasn't in her possession, I never would have boughten it. Never again.

Sorry for the mini rant ^^; I hope the queue idea kind of works - if you need something like an online callendar to keep customers notified of whens full and when isn't, I can see what sort of plug-in's my site has for them...

Roku needs a vacation!

I hope you don't stop doing commissions, though! Because we plan on getting a few from you after the wedding (we'll have all the girls with us, after all!)

Feel better...

Hey I asked you about a commission a year ago this reactor, and I'm not complaining that I haven't recieved it. Yes I have asked about it, but I'm not worried about it. Cuz just from knowing what all you go through, even with the amount that you have posted on your site, and your constant ONY prints of what is going on, or why there isn't a new one out should say how busy you are. and if you can't get ONY done, let alone the commissions then the people can go screw themselves. I understand why some people can be upset about not getting them. But ya know what YOU HAVE YOUR OWN LIFE TOO! So live the way you want/need to, and if that involves not taking commissions for a time or never again. then so be it. I would just like to get mine first :D .Oh ya and  I hope things get better for you sweety.
If you want to 'Pause' ONY for a few weeks so you have some much needed free time, I think we all can understand.
Or take a day off (If possible) and go to a Spa... or have a picnic in the park...
Or keep telling yourself "At least I dont' live in a third world country!"
Or do what I do... Never... Sleep... O_O
